Though yet to be launched in North America, BlackBerry's new smartphones were already for sale online, stirring bidding frenzies.

Sellers claimed they obtained the sleek new handsets at launch events in New York, Toronto, Dubai, London and Johannesburg. Journalists and analysts who attended the events were given a BlackBerry Z10, which retails for $599.

On online auction website eBay bids soared to $3,000 for two "very rare" white Z10 devices, according to the British seller. Another from New York was listed at $1,775. Most of them however went for about $1,100.

The Z10 devices began selling in Britain on Thursday and will launch in Canada on February 5, but won't be available until mid-March in the key US market.

Chief executive Thorsten Heins said the reason for the delay in the US is "a rather lengthy" testing process but noted some carriers are taking pre-orders. Verizon is marketing the phone in the US for $199 with a two-year plan.

Over the past few months, there have been plenty of news regarding the forthcoming BlackBerry 10 smartphones, courtesy multiple leaks time and again. Research in Motion(RIM) is all set to launch its brand new operating system BlackBerry 10 at a packed event in New York City on January 30.
The device will witness a 480 Pounds pricing in the UK. This pricing is based on a purported image from online UK retailer Carphone Warehouse's database.
We've known for a while now that BlackBerry will be unveiling two new devices at that event. The first will be an all-touch device dubbed BlackBerry Z10 and a QWERTY device that is likely to be called BlackBerry X10. Both the devices have been leaked extensively over the past couple of months.
Only a week ago the leaked pictures of two BlackBerry Z10 dummy units that were posted on Instagram. According to reports at CrackBerry.com the BlackBerry Z10 smartphone is expected to start retailing in Canada from February 5th in both black and white models. It will be available through two of the popular telecom operators. We had earlier reported that the unlocked smartphone will cost 700 Canadian dollars.
Apart from these, RIM has also admitted that they will be airing 30 second commercials for the BlackBerry 10 during the Super Bowl XLVII that will be aired in both US and Canada. The press release further mentions, "BlackBerry 10, its new mobile computing platform that will power the next generation of smartphones and tablets, will be featured in a commercial during Super Bowl XLVII."
The use of the word 'tablets' in the press release has raised a lot of questions. It is possible that we might perhaps get a glimpse of the BlackBerry 10 tablet sooner than we thought. There have also been speculations that the BlackBerry 10 tablet might be a part of the January 30 event. However, things do sen a bit uncertain right now as far as the tablet is concerned.

It’s coming — soon. But we wouldn’t miss one last opportunity to see BlackBerry 10 before it is announced on January 30th. There are still plenty of features of the OS that we haven’t yet seen and RIM is doing a good job of keeping some secrets under wraps until launch day.
Forbes got a great look at the almost-finished OS running on the Dev Alpha B hardware, which we believe to be quite similar in specs to the finished hardware, which we know as BlackBerry Z10. As we’ve seen before, the exciting things (that have already been revealed) are the keyboard, the Peek and Flow gestures for notifications, and the centralized Hub where all your important content is stored.
As we’ve heard before, the keyboard has heat-mapping which will learn over time where you most commonly hit keys in error and adjust accordingly to increase accuracy.
We’re getting excited as Launch Day approaches, and can’t wait to try out the device for ourselves. What do you think? Does this whet your appetite for the upcoming BlackBerry 10 phone?
